Here's a little bit about me...My first year at Northwood School was a math support for Kindergarten through Third Grade Math. This grant funded position was for the year. The following year I was a para-professional in KIndergarten. An opportunity in 1998 arose with the need of a Third Grade Teacher at Northwood. I was elated to accept the position. I taught Third Grade for a couple of years and then had the opportunity to teach Fifth Grade. I've been teaching Fifth Graders for over a decade and truly enjoying the uniqueness and personalities of ten and eleven year olds.
I quickly learned that a teacher's job included far more than time spent in the classroom with the students. A teacher spends a large amount of time in meetings (professional development, committee work, grade level teams, and such). Many people joke with me that I "graduated" each time I went to work with older children. I truly enjoy the demands of the classroom and the daily, fast paced world of education. There have been many changes in education such as approach, expectations, technology, and collaboration and doing what it takes to have best practices within my classroom.
As much as I enjoy teaching, I also enjoy many other things in life. Family is utmost of importance to me. I have two, adult aged daughters. Although they have chosen to live in different states we remain very close and visit when we can. They thank me often for the well rounded education they received and the role modeling of hard work and constant effort that I showed them while growing up as it helped make them who they are today. I give my mom a great big shout out when I can because through her own passion for education, her financial assistance made it possible for them to go to college.
My Newfoundland, Lily, is a great companion who shares the love of the outdoors with me. You might find us swimming or walking on any given summer's day! Of course along with plenty of exercise is also the need to rest and recoup from a busy day's expectations. On these days I can be found enjoying a good book in a shady spot in my back yard.
I obtained my Associate's Degree from Northern Essex College in Haverhill, MA. I received my Bachelor's Degree from Worcester University, and my Master's Degree from Lesley University. Currently I'm taking courses at Plymouth State College. Northwood School's mission is to educate children to be life long learners; and I want to make sure I am the best role model I can be!
